5 reasons we swapped to this safety razor

Shaving is quite common, but it's becoming more and more disposable and increasingly expensive. Switching to a safety razor is seriously one of the easiest swaps this year to reduce our plastic use and we even saved money while doing it! Read on to find out 5 reasons we were so happy with this switch!

1. They’re zero waste

Shaving: Most of us do it. Unfortunately, billions of plastic razors and cartridges are thrown away every year. They cannot be recycled, as the metal is embedded in plastic. So, all this plastic is burned or ends up in nature. This is a disaster for the environment. Luckily, there are better options.

Switching to safety razors are a great way for plastic-free shaving. These zero-wasters were widely used before major shaving companies, who only had profit in mind, replaced them with disposable alternatives we constantly needed to rebuy. Safety razors instead only use one single blade made from stainless steel, which is easy recyclable.

And don't worry, even the packaging is made from recyclable and compostable card too.

2. You’ll get a better shave

A useless marketing battle has led to cartridge razors with multi-bladed, vibrating gimmicks. But these many blades actually irritate the skin and are more likely to cause to ingrown hairs. Rather than using multiple blades that tug and pull your hair as they cut like cartridge razors, shaving with a safety razor is all about slow reduction of your facial hair using a single, super sharp blade. You'll find that you’re able to obtain a closer, smoother shave without the razor burn and irritation that modern razors can't avoid.

3. They’re ideal for beginners

People often seem scared to use safety razors because the blades are sharp – and hey, we get it! But there’s actually no need to worry. Bambaw’s safety razor is easy to use and the closed comb makes it less aggressive than an open comb. It takes time to get comfortable with a safety razor and there is a small learning curve. That’s why an illustrated online manual is included.

Changing the blades? No problem either! Check out our guide below.

Just be sure to store them in a safe place, out of reach from little hands.

4. You’ll save money

If you’re a regular shaver, then this switch will save you money! Disposable razors and blades can be incredibly pricey! New and vintage razors are standardised and have used the same style of blades for years (unlike their disposable plastic counterparts, in which styles change more regularly). There’s no reason to ever throw these razors away! You can get replacement blades which are high quality and inexpensive from most supermarkets or online too. Over the course of as little as a year, your initial investment will start paying off.

There is a lot of discussion online about how long a safety razor blade lasts. Generally, the blades can last up to 10 shaves. It’s totally a personal preference as to when you need to replace your blade, which may be more or less than 10 shaves. Just stick true to your skin, and when it’s time to swap, then swap!

5. The manufacturers are carbon neutral

In 2018, worldwide carbon emissions rose yet again. Scientists are warning that a reduction of greenhouse gases is urgently needed to reach the climate targets and keep global warming and its devastating effects as low as possible. Decreasing these emissions can be achieved by a carbon offset.

The Bambaw razor’s supply chain and transport are carbon-neutral, certified by the Carbon Trust Label. Bambaw map down the journey of every product from production till the arrival with us in the UK. The shipping method, the travelled kilometres and weight are monitored to give an accurate picture of the emissions.
