Why we love it
This natural, organic mascara works SO well and acts just like traditional mascara – yet has none of those nasty chemicals! Its nourishing formula cares for your lashes with organic aloe vera, castor oil and shea butter, whilst coating your lashes from root to tip with intense colour. It's lovely natural looking and super buildable too!
We absolutely love all the natural ingredients, and that there’s no testing on animals – neither on the finished products nor the ingredients.
Why swap?
The road to luscious lashes is usually littered with single-use, non-recyclable plastic packaging. In fact, globally the cosmetics and personal-care industry racks up some 120.8bn units of packaging a year. It is nearly all the single-use variety too. By swapping to minimal packaging cosmetics that you can refill, you’re helping to reduce that waste.
As well as being better for the environment, it’s better for you too! The preservatives and dyes found in regular makeup can increase your risk of skin irritation. Zao’s mascara, however, is made without any nasty synthetic preservatives and with high-quality raw materials instead, reducing risk or redness and irritation and making it perfect for regular use and for those with sensitive eyes.
But there’s plastic in this mascara?
Unfortunately, it’s not possible to make completely plastic-free mascara (yet!) so this mascara does contain some recyclable plastic. However, by swapping to this refillable alternative by Zao, you’ll significantly reduce the amount of plastic you’d use in traditional alternatives.
And don’t worry, your used wands can be donated to rescue charities to help care for baby animals, check out Wands for Wildlife here. The brushes are actually perfect for combining the fur and feathers of small wildlife to remove fleas, larva and fly eggs, meaning the same bristles that plump your lashes work through fine coats like a dream too.
Instructions for use
Start with the upper lashes, holding the brush horizontally close to the root, move up in a zigzag motion while you are looking down. Concentrate on the ends to enlarge the eye and on the centre to open up the eyes. Gently tap the eyelashes when applying mascara to the lower lashes, ensuring that you don’t overload them.
