LEEDS ECO-COMPANY AIMS TO END ‘PERIOD PLASTIC’ CRISIS

Leeds-based eco company EcoVibe is proud to partner with &SISTERS, a feminine product company, dedicated to reducing the impact of period products on the environment.

Leeds, West Yorkshire – [15.01.20] - EcoVibe, a leading Leeds-based eco company, have teamed up with feminine hygiene brand &SISTERS to take the plastic out of period products.

EcoVibe, who have helped to stop over seven tonnes of plastic from entering the environment since their launch in 2018, are making it their mission to make periods plastic-free.

Currently, sanitary products, such as plastic applicators, are the fifth most common item found on beaches in Europe - more than straws or plastic cutlery. An estimated 2.5m tampons are flushed down the toilet every day in the UK and approximately 200,000 tonnes of sanitary material end up in UK landfill every single year.

EcoVibe’s Marketing Manager, Rebecca Pinder said, “We were shocked when we found out the scale of daily plastic waste generated due to periods. Tampon applicators are used for seconds but take hundreds, if not thousands, of years to break down. This is a global issue we need to take seriously, and this starts with providing earth-friendlier products. We couldn’t be happier to be working with &SISTERS to provide truly biodegradable options.”

EcoVibe were motivated to join forces with &SISTERS due to their joint commitment to reducing single-use plastic. The &SISTERS products retailed by EcoVibe will be entirely biodegradable and contain no traditional oil-based plastics. The tampon and liner products are made from 100% natural, organic cotton; unlike many other brands which are chemically treated. This makes the hygiene products hypoallergenic, skin-friendly, pH neutral and naturally absorbent. EcoVibe will also be offering &SISTERS reusable cups, which can save up to 2,000 disposable period products over the cup’s lifetime.

EcoVibe will be the UK’s only stockists of &SISTERS paper-wrapped, organic cotton non-applicator tampons when the range is launched on Thursday 16th January.

EcoVibe Trading Manager, Amy Landon said, “We couldn’t be prouder to offer products which are not only great for the environment but great for women too. We feel like we’re making a difference in the lives of women across the globe.”

The &SISTERS range will be available on Ecovibe.co.uk from Thursday 16th January. Products start at £3.99.
