Eco Top Picks: Darren

We know that the switch to an eco-friendly lifestyle is a journey, and that everyone is on different points along that journey. That’s okay! That means that there are new people joining the sustainability movement every day, and there are also people who have kept up with sustainable living for years. Different things work for different people, and we want to share those handy hints and tips with you. Be inspired by our community!

Meet: Darren, Head of Operations at EcoVibe
Introduce yourself, Darren…
I live in Tingley on the outskirts of Leeds with my Wife and dog Pip. Thankfully all 3 of my children now have their own places but still nip round occasionally to raid the fridge. I only joined EcoVibe recently so I’m still learning all about the company and its values.

Tell us about your eco journey…

As I mentioned I’m new here and didn’t really think too much about the environment and the effect of single use plastics before I joined the company. I used to do the usual basic things like sorting our household waste into the recycling bin but other than that didn’t really do much more.

Since joining the company and seeing all of the products that are now available and that can be used to help the environment it’s opened my eyes to what can be achieved without too much effort. We get to take home and test out our products to ensure that they live up to their claims and we make sure all of our packaging is plastic free and bio degradable.

What are your favourite eco-products?

I had always thought that after cleaning up after our dog we were just putting the plastic bag in the bin and sending it to landfill so when I joined the company I was surprised to find that they already sell Biodegradable Poo Bags so that was an easy switch for me.

After switching to the plant based poo bags, I thought it only made sense to also switch out plastic bin liners for Plant Based Bin Liners too so that was another easy win for me.

The other switch I found from starting with EcoVibe which I think is a great product was the Reusable Stainless Steel Razors I had never tried one before but they give the best shave I've had from a razor at home and are really easy to use.

The last switch I will mention which i think is a no brainer is antibacterial soap bars, they do the same job as ones you buy in plastic but last longer and smell much nicer, the one I buy is Ginger and Mandarin Soap Bar - plus no plastic packaging.

What’s your top eco-tips?

Don’t forget that if you use the Biodegradable Poo bags not to just put it them straight into a plastic bin bag as your defeating the object, we also sell Biodegradable Bin Bags so ensure you use them as well.
